I’ve totally been neglecting the site because of the lack of surf, but all excuses aside….I’m on it!

Having a few days off, I decided to head south to Port Aransas to catch some swell before a tropical wave pushed into the Texas coast.  I found some small waves lining up at fish pass, and enjoyed them to myself for about 5 hours before the wind started to pick up.  With gas, food, hotel room, and the speeding ticket I got, the trip was a little more expensive then I hoped.  Plus it’s a little hard to split those things with you and yourself.  Oh well, it was worth it to surf clear green waves all to myself.  The wind has definitely picked up…..it’s blowing around 25-30 knots and has made the surf almost totally unrideable.  Kinda as if it was a sick joke being played on us by Mother herself.  Flat for a month and then 5-7 foot seas for a few days of unrideable washing machine type surf.  I guess your glass is either half empty or half full…….fug it I’m going out!

Texas surf is often “glamorized” by tropical storm and hurricane swell, as well as wind swell cleaned up by northern fronts, conditions usually lasting only a few hours.  However, the reality is Texas rarely gets good swell and often we are cursed with wicked flat spells which could last a month.  The latter is what we are currently facing.  With only one ground swell in the month of June, I’ve taken what mother nature has given.  I’ve surfed a few days this last week, once with Kelly and Kate and once with Dave and Zane.  A couple knee high days and a couple even less then that.  Megan and I enjoyed a little knee high swell today and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for something a little more substantial…
